Magical Mystery

 prestige1.jpg

I know this is sort of cheating because we don’t have this film in the Teen collection, but since it is PG-13, I figure it’s alright. The Prestige, directed by Christopher Nolan of Batman Begins and Memento fame, didn’t make a big splash when it came out in theatres last spring. It’s too bad, because if you like mysteries, this is a tremendous film. It concerns two rival magicians, and their battle to master the most incredible magic trick in the world. It stars Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman and Scarlett Johanssen, who all give really intense performances. But my favorite part? David Bowie (a.k.a. ‘Creepy 80s Guy’ from our library DDR sessions) as real-life inventor Nikola Tesla. After seeing this movie, you’ll want to know more about Tesla, and his feud with electrical rival Thomas Edison. I can pretty much guarantee that you won’t figure it all out until the very end.

Fill in the Blanks

Attention all Star Wars fans: Did you know that between 2003 and 2005, the Cartoon Network aired Star Wars: Clone Wars, an animated series that told the story of the battles that took place between the Jedi and the Sith (or, between Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.) It is during these important battles that we see Anakin begin to embrace more and more of the darkness within him. We also see a lot of excellent animated battles, find out what happened to the remaining Jedi, and meet some cool characters you never get to see in the film versions. We have put both DVDs together in one box, so you can watch them one after the other! You don’t know the whole Star Wars story until you see Clone Wars!

I have a big head…and little arms!

A Good Movie You Might Have Missed

dreamz.jpg

We are in the midst of yet another season of American Idol, which makes this either your favorite, or most hated time of the year. An interesting fact that was brought up a few seasons ago is that more people had voted during for the finale episode than cast ballots during the most recent Presidential election. This tidbit was likely an inspiration for a neat movie that came and went without  much fanfare last year. While we are mostly ambivalent about Idol, we definately enjoyed the film American Dreamz, which we now have in our Teen collection. It stars Mandy Moore, Hugh Grant, Chris Klein, Willem Dafoe, and Dennis Quaid as the President of the United States. It is a parody not only of reality TV, but also the people who go crazy for it. Watch at your own risk!

Speaking of parody…   blades.jpg   This will be interesting…
