I DARE YOU

i_dare_you.jpg

All Fairfield teens entering grades 6 - 12 are invited to participate in the I DARE YOU Summer Reading game. The more you read, the more crazy things librarians will do.

  • Wear fake tattoos

  • Cut their hair short and/or dye it blue

  • Dress up in ridiculous costumes you choose

  • Go Goth on the first day of school

It’s easy! You don’t have to register to participate: Just let us know what you are reading in person, via this blog, or by email. You can read whatever you want - it all counts.

We pick a prize winner each week based on that week’s entries, and the more pages you read, the more raffle tickets you win towards the Grand Prize (And what will those prizes be? Attend a TAG meeting to help select them.)

We will also be having special events each Thursday from 2 to 4 PM. We dare you to:

  • Go Natural (Making Beauty Supplies)

  • Sing Out Loud (Video Karaoke)

  • Get Sticky (Duct Tape Workshop)

  • (Don’t) Eat This (Gross Food Eating Contest)

  • Yell it Out (Harry Potter Trivia Bingo)

  • Talk it Out (Harry Potter Book Discussion)

  • Break a Sweat (Big Screen DDR)

  • Win It All (Grand Finale Party)

Check the Teen page in the coming weeks for more details on dates and times. Remember, you have to read anyway, so you might as well READ TO WIN!

Reader’s Groups Forming Now

Beginning in March, there will be two Reader’s groups at the Fairfield Public Library:

  • Between Books: A group for teens in grades 6-8

  • Readers on the Verge: Grades 9 and up

The groups will meet every other month. Readers can choose one of two books for each meeting. These books might have similar themes, share an author, or be linked in some way. Teens can either attend the meetings, or participate all month long via a special Reader’s Group blog, FPLTeensRead. At the end of each session, copies of the groups’ next selections will be raffled off: One book for a teen who attends the meeting, and one for a teen who comments on the blog.

For more information, meeting dates, and book selections, please visit the FPLTeensRead blog!

Wizard Rock @ The Library

Love Harry Potter? Hate Harry Potter? On May 4th, the Whomping Willows and Draco and the Malfoys, well-known wizard rock bands, will be playing at the Fairfield Public Library as a part of their national tour. Wizard Rock bands often take on the personalities of the characters they are named for, so no matter what side of the Potter fence you sit on, you can be sure you’ll have a great time. This will be a one-of-a-kind concert experience, so plan ahead! Spaces will be limited.
