What are you Giving?

This holiday season, take a day of your vacation and make the world a better place. Our second annual Teen Read-a-Thon will take place on Thursday, December 27 from 10 AM to 5 PM at both library branches.

During this time, teens will silently read to raise money (through pledges and donations) for the Central Asia Institute, a group that builds schools, especially for girls, in remote mountain regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

It’s a fabulous chance to promote peace through education this holiday season. For more information, contact the Teen Librarian.

Come to the library and make a difference in the world.

Read for a Cause

Once again, the Teen Services department will be sponsoring a Teen Read-A-Thon during the Holiday break in order to raise money for a worthy cause.

This year’s Read-A-Thon will benefit the Central Asia Institute, a foundation that provides community-based education and literacy programs, especially for girls, in remote mountain regions of Central Asia.

This charity was selected as part of the upcoming One Book, One Town celebration, coming to Fairfield in March. The book selected for the town-wide read is Three Cups of Tea, the incredible and unforgettable story of CAI founder Greg Mortenson.

Print your pledge sheet and begin collecting donations today! For more information on how to participate in this year’s Read-A-Thon, visit the Teen page or contact the Teen Librarian.

This is Big!

(Who’s this guy? Keep reading and you’ll find out!)

October is always a busy month at the library. Our marquee event, Mystery Night, will occur on October 20 at the Fairfield Woods Branch Library. While the event is full, put your name on the waiting list - we always manage to get most everyone in for the show.

We are having another Wizard Rock show: Friday, October 19 at 7 PM. See our Good Music post this month for more on that.

Then, all of a sudden, we have been offered the chance to play host to SCOTT WESTERFELD! That’s right, the author of the Uglies books will be here at the library on Thursday, October 25 at 4 PM. Register beginning on October 4th.

So, make sure you stop by the library in October - who knows what else might happen!

Game On!

Due to popular (and persistent) demand, the Fairfield Public Library’s Rotary Room will be open on Friday afternoons from September to December from 3 to 4:30 PM for free play gaming.

Now what does that mean? It means we will have gaming consoles hooked up to our big screen, so stop by with your friends afterschool to play and snack. You can use our equipment, or bring your own games, consoles and controllers for everyone to share.

Thanks to everyone who attended our first Wizard Rock show on May 4th - all 135 of you! You might have noticed the video cameras shooting footage for a Harry Potter documentary…we will keep our eyes out for it! And a special thanks to those TAG members and others who helped decorate the library, and an extra-special thanks to Haley H. for suggesting the event!
