I read Saving Juliet by Suzanne Selfors
Pages Read:241
Mimi Wallingford is stuck in the theatre business because of her great-granddaughter of a famous actress. She hates acting in her family theatre where she plays Juliet in Romeo and Juliet and has developed terrible stage fright. But she travels back in time with Troy, the attractive pop star who plays Romeo, to the world of Romeo and Juliet. I liked this book because it didn’t completely follow the story line of the real Romeo and Juliet and it was very moderized. I wold recommend it.

Pages Read:941
Makino is a poor girl who is at odds with the ruling class of her elite private school known as the F4. Sometimes they are in love with her sometimes they are throwing trash at her. But she swears she will not be defeated. I like this book because the main character is a very strong willed girl, the style of manga isn’t my favorite but the plot line is very good.

Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire
368 pages
Main Character: Iris Fisher van den Meer (/her sister Ruth)
This is basically the story of Cinderella, but twisted around and stretched so that the ending is still a surprise. It’s about Iris and Ruth Fisher and their mother Margarethe who move from England to Holland to live with their grandfather. There they meet Clara van den Meer, who is very beautiful but is not let outside her house. What I really liked was how Maguire portrayed Iris, Ruth, and Margarethe (the stepsisters and stepmother) without the meanness and spite of the original fairy tale, while also not making Clara (”Cinderella”) seem snotty and rude. This is the first Cinderella story I have read that manages this and still contains certain key points of the original story, as most authors tend to make either the step family or Cinderella seem villainous.

In this book, teenagers all over America are dying and coming back to “life”, and no one really knows why. She struggles to understand the DB kids and her feelings for Tommy, while her best friend Adam begins to feel jealous of Phoebe’s relationship with Tommy. Meanwhile, Adam’s former friend Pete deals with his hatred of the undead students along with his ever present grief over the loss of his friend Julie. It was a very interesting book to read, but the end was a bit disappointing, as it left a lot of questions unanswered.

Nobody’s Prize by Esther Friesner
306 pages
Main Character: Helen of Sparta (also other characters that are really Helen in disguise)
I can’t say too much about this one, because it’s a sequel to a book called Nobody’s Princess. The series is about the young Helen of Sparta, before she would become “the face that launched a thousand ships”. Not much is known about the young Helen historically, and in this series she is portrayed as a with a fierce personality who wants to learn fencing and swordplay like her brothers in lieu of the stitching and needlework a royal must learn to do instead, and she’ll do whatever she has to in order to achieve that.

Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac by Gabrielle Zevin
271 pages
Main Character: Naomi Porter
When Naomi falls down a flight of stairs and hits her head, she wakes up in a hospital with amnesia. She can’t remember her life after she was 12. She must relive all the events of the past four years, good or bad (but mostly bad) in a fraction of that time. This is the story of her journey to rediscover herself.
Oh, and some of the books I posted might count as sports books- in Generation Dead a big part of the book was about how Adam and Tommy both played football, and it was sort of controversial to have Tommy on the team since he was technically a zombie. In Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac, Naomi was on the tennis team, tennis was the only thing she and her boyfriend really had in common, and he gave her a pair of tennis wristbands after she fell that were actually a more significant gift than she thought. And Nobody’s Prize might count as a sports book if fencing, archery and such is a sport, since that was what Helen worked so hard to learn how to do. And…this one is a bit of a stretch, but in Maximum Ride: The Final Warning, they talk about flying a lot since they have wings, so if THAT’S considered a sport…
Alright now, let’s not go overboard here – the book needs to have a ’sports theme,’ not just mention sports. Keep that in mind. I’ll give you Memoirs and Generation Dead. Having wings and flying on them, however, crosses the line

He was supposedly working for a secret society, the Illuminati who wanted revenge on the Catholic Church for their persecution. Along with Vittoria Vetra, they must stop the antimatter from exploding and destroying the entire sacred city. This book was thrilling and hard to put down. A lot of sleep was lost on this book! The Host by Stephenie Meyer
619 pages
Main Character: Wanderer and Melanie Stryder
I really enjoy Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series, so I decided to read her other book (The Host), assuming it was just as good. I was not disappointed. In this book, Earth has been invaded by these parasites, called Souls. They need a host body to survive. They enter a planet and the beings within it, curing all diseases and turning it into a virtual paradise, for the Souls at least. The original owner of the body is erased. On most planets they use, the beings are very simple and docile, but on Earth, the humans are trying to resist. Melanie Stryder is one of the few whose lasted. Wanderer is a Soul who has a reputation for being to the most planets of anyone else- most find one they feel at home in after about two- and she is expecting Earth to be the same. She is up for a challenge when she occupies Melanie’s body and realizes that Melanie is still there, not letting herself be erased. This is new to Wanderer, and she doesn’t understand why she isn’t strong enough to banish Melanie completely, who in turn is frustrated that SHE isn’t strong enough to regain control of her body. The plot quickly becomes more complicated, but I don’t want to ruin the first hundred pages or so for anyone, so I guess you’ll have to read it yourself! (You really should, I highly recommend it. I literally stayed up until 3:39AM last night reading it.)
