What’s Happening @ the Library - February 2008
No Freebird!!!
![]()
The Teen Services department is holding it’s first-ever Guitar Hero tournament on Thursday, February 21 from 2 to 5 PM. Are you ready?
How it will work:
Events | Comment (0)This ages 12-18 tourney will have brackets for Medium, Hard and Expert play. We will use Guitar Hero III (which is why there is no Freebird!)
There will be prizes for winning each bracket, a grand prize for the overall winner, and a special prize for best moves.
Songs will be chosen at random for the first two levels of each bracket. We will then move to a player’s choice stage.
Sign up now, as due to bracket restrictions, spaces are limited!
We will have a practice session on the Wednesday before the tournament, and doors will open at 1 PM. Get there early to choose your bracket! If your chosen bracket fills up before you get there, you might have to play at a different level than the one you had planned on!
Good Books - February 2008
The Summit

As we are gearing up for our One Book, One Town program in March, we are focusing on exploring the themes of our town’s book Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin.
As you may (or may not) know, Mortenson began his mission not as an educator or engineer, but as a mountain climber. So to celebrate the majesty of K2 and the other great mountains of the world, we are planning a special Teen program for March…check back soon for more on the Extreme Everest Adventure!
And just to get you in the mood, here are some books on what it takes to climb:
Good Books | Comment (0)* Peak by Roland Smith
* Seven Summits edited by Steve Bell
* Touching the Void by Joe Simpson
* Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer

Hot Soundtracks
Maybe it has something to do with being librarians: We love collecting things, and we love collections - short stories, anthologies and…soundtracks!
Sometimes your new favorite song is something you heard not on the radio, but in a movie or on a TV show. What is great about soundtracks is that you find both new artists and songs you’ve never heard by artists you already love all rolled together.
Some soundtracks to check out:
Good Music | Comment (0)* Juno featuring the Moldy Peaches
* Once by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova
* Grey’s Anatomy featuring Tegan and Sara
* Into the Wild by Eddie Vedder
* Across the Universe featuring The Secret Machines
