Game On!

Due to popular (and persistent) demand, the Fairfield Public Library’s Rotary Room will be open on Friday afternoons from September to December from 3 to 4:30 PM for free play gaming.

Now what does that mean? It means we will have gaming consoles hooked up to our big screen, so stop by with your friends afterschool to play and snack. You can use our equipment, or bring your own games, consoles and controllers for everyone to share.

Total Eclipse of the Heart

Okay, I have to admit I am not crazy about gothic stories. Or romances. Or vampire-meets-human-meets-werewolf-cataclysm stories. Except for this one. So while we sit around waiting for the fourth (and final?) book in the Bella-Edward-Jacob saga, and for author Stephenie Meyer’s forthcoming body-snatching aliens novel The Host, give these other vampire stories a try:

Bloodline by Kate Cary

The Silver Kiss by Annette Curtis Klause

Blue Bloods by Melissa de la Cruz

Peeps by Scott Westerfeld

Gil’s All-Fright Diner by A. Lee Martinez

Thirsty by M.T. Anderson

Vampirates by Justin Somper

Amy Winehouse has taken the U.S. music scene by storm, and now she’s…err…exhausted. So while the Rehab singer is resting, why don’t you check out some albums by the girl groups and jazz singers who influenced her throwback style:

Greatest Hits by Billie Holiday

Brazilian Romance by Sarah Vaughan

Ella and Louis Again by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong

The Ronettes (featured on Phil Spector: Back to Mono)

Martha and the Vandellas (featured on Motown #1s)

Back to School

10.jpg

We know…who really wants to head back to school after such a glorious summer. It’s awesome to reconnect with friends you haven’t seen all summer long, but that sort of wears off after the first day, doesn’t it? So, to cheer you up, here are some of our favorite ’school’ movies. Check them out before the summer sun fades for good!:

  • Ten Things I Hate About You
  • Rudy
  • Say Anything
  • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
  • Napoleon Dynamite
  • Mean Girls
